Biomill SA is part of the fenaco Group and employs around 20 staff. Biomill SA sells high-quality food for small animals. The company headquarters are located in Herzogenbuchsee, Switzerland.
As far back as the early 1950s, food for small animals was being produced under the Biomill name, which quickly became established in specialised markets.
In 1972, Jacques Bugnion, the director at that time of Moulin de Granges SA and a great dog lover, decided to use extrusion for the manufacture of pet food for the first time in Europe. This new process significantly increased the digestibility of the food compared with the manufacturing processes known previously. For this reason the University Clinic for Veterinary Medicine in Bern recommended that all dogs with digestive problems be fed with this innovative food, since no other dog food available in Switzerland was so compatible. Thanks to this mini revolution in dog food, Biomill quickly became well known and it established itself as the leading product in the market.
Biomill Food
The overwhelming success of this dog food became the motivating force for the development of other products designed to meet the various requirements of all different breeds of dogs and cats. The first complete dog and cat nutrition programme the Biomill Classic range was developed at this time.
Based on the know-how gained from these developments, the nutrition specialists at Biomill developed a Premium Cat Food, today known as Swiss Professional. This quickly became established on the international markets.
Manufacturing
The feed is manufactured in several locations. The quality of the product is ensured by the formulation of the recipes, the selection of the raw materials, and the precise production process. To produce pet food, Biomill works with an Italian family company, which was prepared to build and operate a production facility according to the specified requirements.

Biomill guarantees through its Swiss Original Formula label that its own nutrition specialists (veterinary and agronomic) at the company headquarters in Herzogenbuchsee, in Switzerland formulate the recipes, supervise the monitoring and ensure through daily personal contact that the manufacturing is implemented as required.

The exclusivity of large brands is often based on a secret recipe. Despite this, production worldwide is still possible as the concentrate is supplied directly to the production sites from the parent company. The premixes for Biomill food are produced in Switzerland and delivered from there to the production site, where it is the ingredients contained in the premixes which essentially influence and form the character of the food.
Quality controls to Swiss standards
The production processes and the quality control procedures are adapted to Swiss standards, and they ensure the implementation of these through daily personal contact and regular monitoring on site. Pet food products are produced in Italy and the products for small animals are produced in Switzerland.
